Welcome to The Gengras Center of University of Saint Joseph

The Center is a unique, special education program for elementary, middle and high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and related behavioral challenges. The Center is a lab school located on the campus of University of Saint Joseph at 1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, Connecticut.

Overview
As a state approved private special education facility the school provides a highly structured, intensive, self-contained special education program for elementary, middle and high school students. The program focuses on skill development in the core academic areas and functional application of skills in the areas of community living, work readiness, job training, social development, and independent living.

In addition to serving children from all over the state of Connecticut, The Gengras Center also provides the college with an on campus lab school. University of Saint Joseph students have access to The Gengras Center to fulfill requirements for classes in such areas as Special Education, Psychology, Nursing, Social Work, Counseling, and Nutrition. USJ students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they acquire in the college classroom in a real life educational setting at The Gengras Center.

Referrals to the Gengras Center must be made by the local school district through the Planning and Placement Team process. Students from over 50 Connecticut and southern Massachusetts towns attend our school. Local school districts provide transportation to the Gengras Center.
