Transcript Review for Cross Endorsement by Connecticut State Department of Education:

Candidates seeking a cross endorsement in Special Education must apply directly to the Connecticut State Department of Education (CDSE) to request a transcript review. This analysis is used to develop a customized program.

  • A CDSE consultant will review transcripts and provide a written response. This letter and a copy of the initial teaching license are required for the application process.
  • With a Special Education advisor, you will develop a planned program of study as part of the Graduate Admissions process, selecting courses that have been approved by the CDSE.

Following successful completion of all coursework, practica, and state tests (Praxis II and Foundations of Reading), you will apply directly to the CDSE for issuance of the certificate.

Non-degree Program For Cross Endorsement in Special Education:

  • Licensed teachers who do not desire a master's degree may enroll in a non-degree, graduate-credit-bearing program for cross certification in Special Education only.
  • With an advisor, you will select courses that fulfill requirements identified by CDSE. A copy of the written response from CDSE, based on an individual transcript review, is required.
  • Summer placements are available to fulfill CDSE requirements. To be eligible, a minimum of nine credits of cross-endorsement coursework is required. One of the required courses will feature intervention level and a supervised clinical component.

Following successful completion of all coursework, practica, and state tests (Praxis II and Foundations of Reading), you will apply directly to the CDSE for issuance of the certificate.
