AARP and the University of Saint Joseph are sponsoring a

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

DEBATE VIEWING PARTY

Wednesday, October 3, 2012 from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.

University of Saint Joseph - McGovern Dining Hall

1678 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, Conn.

 

The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in collaboration with AARP will sponsor a viewing party for the first Presidential Debate of the 2012 election season featuring President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney on Wednesday, October 3 in McGovern Dining Hall on USJ’s West Hartford campus located at 1678 Asylum Avenue. The program will kick-off with a panel discussion at 8:00 p.m. moderated by Shelly Sindland, formerly a journalist at FOX 61 News; the debate will be broadcast live on large screen monitors starting at 9:00 p.m. Please note:

  • This is a nonpartisan event.
  • Several distinguished members of the USJ faculty will participate in the panel discussion. Kenneth J. Long, Ph.D., professor and chair of History & Society will set the stage on discussion topics to be covered during the debate. In addition, Susan Lynch, DNP, assistant professor of Nursing, will offer perspective on how this election impacts the health care system in the United States. 
  • A short survey will be distributed to USJ students concerning Medicare and Social Security.

The viewing party will include a multi-generational audience of USJ students, faculty and staff.  Members of the local community are cordially invited to attend. Pizza, popcorn, and an ice cream sundae bar will be provided; admission is free of charge.
