APPLICATION Instructions

Step 1: Please complete the online application here. Select the “Graduate and Doctorate Application.”

Step 2: Submit your official NACES member organization's international transcript evaluation - we recommend World Education Services (WES).

Step 3: Submit your official score reports from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT®) with a minimum of 79, or your International English Language Testing System (IELTS, Academic Version) with a minimum band score of 6.5. This is required if English is not your first and primary language.

Step 4: Check the additional documents that are required for your specific graduate program of study. These will be listed in your “online portal,” which is created after you submit the application in Step 1. These requirements often include, but are not limited to, letters of recommendation, essay, resume/CV, etcetera.

Once all documents are received, the completed file will be submitted to the Program Director for an admission decision. Program Directors will advise Admissions of their decision and candidates will receive an update via email.

Step 5: If admitted to a graduate program with a full-time plan of study, you must submit the following additional documentation for an I-20 to be issued:

  • A copy of your passport and current visa (if applicable)
  • Official certification of finances with supporting documentation showing funding for at least one academic year, including tuition and fees, living expenses, personal expenses, and textbooks.
  • Any documentation required for additional, dependent visas

*Note: International students will not qualify for an F-1 student visa if they are pursuing an online program.

Step 6: Apply for an F-1 student visa

  • USJ is permitted by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service to admit non-immigrant students. Upon admission to a degree program, you will be issued an I-20, which is used to pursue an F-1 student visa through the American Embassy or Consulate in your home country. This visa must be current at all times.
  • For additional information on applying for an F-1 visa, we recommend you visit Study in the States.

Step 7: Please review the USJ immunization and health requirements. All international students are required to maintain health insurance coverage provided by USJ. For more information, visit Heath Services

We look forward to receiving your completed application! Please contact us if you have any questions.
