A Creative Colony in the Catskills: Visual Artists and Woodstock, New York

June 16 - Aug. 27, 2017

LeithRoss_Sawkill.jpgSince the nineteenth century Woodstock, NY has been the permanent or seasonal home of a wide variety of artists, many of whom were associated with the summer school of New York City’s Art Students’ League. This exhibition is drawn from the Art Museum’s permanent collection with the addition of some private loans. Artists represented in the exhibition include Milton Avery, Georgina Klitgaard, Fletcher Martin, Jehudith Sobel, Deane Keller and many more.

Sobel_Portrait.jpgOn July 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. the Art Museum, in association with the Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival, will host a Garden Party with refreshments and activities to celebrate this summer's exhibition. The party will feature a number of indoor and outdoor activities including Pop-up Sketching on the Patio, Museum activities and games (with prizes!) and refreshments. Garden Party guests may also purchase discounted tickets to Capital Classics Theater Company’s performance of William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost (7:30 p.m.).
