An Advocate Against Bullying
Dr. Nora Zinan’s expertise encompasses the public health arena and includes helping underserved populations manage issues like asthma and heart disease. She is most proud, though, of her advocacy to advance the role school nurses play in the fight against bullying.

Zinan said her scholarship “grew out a passion for preventing bullying since my son was bullied.” Her work with Massachusetts nurses on “The Bully Victim Identification and Intervention Program for School Nurses” resulted in a significant increase in the ways in which the nurses could intervene. The study concluded that, “School nurses are in a unique position to aid bullies and victims, and should be included in the prevention of and solution to this public health problem.”

A Commitment to Public Health

Driven be her desire to “work on the front lines of public health,” Zinan relishes her teaching role at USJ. “My ultimate goal is to develop smart and compassionate nurses,” she said. “I have faith that all students will find a place and career where they can soar.”
