Making the Most of Change

Dr. Rachel Diamond has devoted her career to assisting families in transition. She brings her valuable experience and expertise to USJ’s prominent department of Human Development & Family Studies as an assistant professor of Marriage and Family Therapy. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Chicago at the Family Institute at Northwestern University, following master’s and doctoral degrees at Saint Louis University, Diamond is delighted to join the Connecticut community and assist students in discovering their own paths within the field of family therapy. “It is especially meaningful to support students in the early stages of their careers,” she shared.

Successful Transitions

Family dynamic is a longstanding interest for Diamond and fuels her commitment to working with couples and families dealing with difficult life transitions. “Relationships are often tested during times of transition, and I aim to strengthen bonds when they are most vulnerable,” she explained. Diamond has published extensively in the domains of divorce and remarriage, and she has contributed to prestigious journals with articles that focus on helping couples enhance communication skills and elevate levels of trust in the aftermath of divorce. A specialist in perinatal loss and infertility, Diamond previously worked as a bereavement counselor in Chicago, where she counseled grieving families and created programs to educate hospital staff in the skill of caring for families following pregnancy and newborn loss.

Honored for Helping and Healing Families

Recognized for her outstanding work and academic achievements, Diamond is the recipient of numerous awards and has presented her work at conferences across the country.
