4. Building for the Future

From the arts to the sciences, Bruyette got a boost. A dance studio added in 2019 and new Pharmacy classrooms make space for the intersection of science and the arts.

With a 4,760-square-foot addition and extensive renovations completed between 2016 and 2022, Lourdes Hall now houses the PA Studies and Pharmacy programs.

Opened in Fall 2021, the 5,400-square-foot Linda Morasutti ’83, M’13, and Robert M. Lee Nursing Education and Simulation Center enables hands-on learning through high-fidelity mannequins, a simulated hospital and nursing unit, and health assessment and skills lab. McDonough also saw the addition of a pharmacy teaching and research lab, student lounge, renewed Registrar’s office, and improved building accessibility.

In 2020, McGovern’s first floor underwent a full redesign, introducing a revamped McGovern Dining Commons, Jay’s Nest Café, USJ Campus Store, and an updated student lounge.

A rebuild of the Business and Human Resources suites and renovations to the Admissions area benefit employees and prospective students alike.

Athletics at USJ got a major upgrade in 2021 with a significant expansion of the O’Connell Athletic Center that introduced:

• The James A. Calhoun Gymnasium with NCAA-regulation basketball court
• Brand new women’s and men’s locker rooms
• The Beekley Center for Health and Wellness
• A strength and conditioning center
• Additional coaches’ offices
• Turf soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, baseball, and softball fields
• The Elizabeth Ferry Speer Tennis Complex
• Updates to the Bruyette Natatorium

The second floor of the library became the new home for the Center for Academic Excellence in Fall 2018, uniting the Academic & Career Services Center, the Academic Advisement Center, and the Office of Career Development under one roof. On the first floor, a new Collaborative Learning Space invites group work and faculty-student connection — with private study rooms and tech-enabled monitors.

Before the arrival of male undergraduates in Fall 2018, Rosary and McAuley Halls got a fresh new look. Updated flooring, modern appliances, and brightened common areas now reflect the vibrant energy of the USJ community.
