- Thomas Nast’s American Icons: Miss Columbia and Uncle SamJuly 7 – September 5, 2026
A salute to the 250th anniversary of the U.S.A., this exhibition investigates the famous nineteenth-century political cartoonist’s take on important questions of his day that remain contentious in ours. Among the issues that prompted Nast’s biting visual commentaries in Harper’s Weekly were political corruption, Civil Service reform, monetary policy, foreign affairs, and public funding for religious schools. Through two iconic personifications of the U.S., Miss Columbia and Uncle Sam, Nast expressed his views on American politics, national ideals, and governmental actions.
