Enhance your skills and achieve academic success
The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) provides students with tutoring to assist with reviewing undergraduate content, writing papers and presentations in all disciplines, and strengthening their academic success skills. Tutors at the CAE are either high-achieving USJ undergraduates, USJ graduates or professionals. All tutors receive compressive training and ongoing evaluation.
Services
Content Tutoring: The CAE offers subject specific content tutoring for many undergraduate courses, including Accounting, Biology, Chemistry, History, Math, Nursing, Psychology, and more. Make a 1:1 appointment or come to the drop-in group study sessions. Students can bring specific questions or come for a more general exploration of the topics. To ensure your sessions are beneficial, please bring all your course materials with you.
Writing Tutoring: The CAE offers help with paper or presentation organization, brainstorming, outlining, citation, formatting, deepening your critical thinking, or developing your thesis statement. We have undergraduate and graduate writing tutors, who can help students navigate the writing process and improve their communication skills. Students will meet with the tutor in a 1:1 appointment. Students do not need to have completed a draft of their paper/presentation to see a tutor. Our tutors would love to work with the student earlier in the process to help them understand the assignment, organize their sources, craft a thesis statement, and create an outline. Please make sure to bring the assignment, sources, notes, and other materials related to the paper/presentation.
Academic Skills Tutoring: The CAE Academic Skills tutors provide guidance when it comes to time management, organizational skills, study skills, test taking strategies, or reading difficult texts for all classes on campus. Our tutors meet with you in 1:1 appointments to help you problem solve around your needs and practice building your skills.
