The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) provides students with tutoring to assist with writing papers in all disciplines, reviewing undergraduate content, and with strengthening their academic success skills. Tutors at the CAE are either professionals in their field or high-achieving undergraduates recommended by faculty to tutor a specific discipline. Supplemental instruction is available for various courses in disciplines such as Chemistry, Biology, and Nursing. Study tables are scheduled several times a week to help students succeed in these programs.

Content Tutoring: The CAE offers content tutoring for many undergraduate courses, including Biology, Chemistry, Math, Nursing, Physics, and more. Review the content of your class with a tutor who has previously taken the course, has been recommended by the professor, and received comprehensive training from our staff. To make your appointment as beneficial as possible, come prepared with questions and specific topics you wish to review.

Writing Tutoring: Need help with paper organization, brainstorming, outlining, citation, formatting, deepening your critical thinking, or developing your thesis statement? Our Writing Tutors have been thoroughly trained by CAE professional staff and can help with undergraduate or graduate level papers. Undergraduate Writing Tutors have been recommended by professors and received high marks in their writing courses. Graduate Assistant and Professional Writing Tutors have strong writing backgrounds and have gone through a rigorous interview process.

Academic Success Tutoring: Looking for some guidance when it comes to time management, organizational skills, study skills, test taking strategies, or reading difficult texts? Our Academic Success Tutors have been vetted by professors and go through an extensive training process in order to help you enhance your academic success skills.

Our Services Include

  • One-on-one or small-group tutorials, and large-group study tables
  • Skills to enhance students’ competencies in academic success, written expression, and critical reasoning across and within the disciplines
  • Leadership development for students who serve as tutors, front desk assistants, and peer mentors
  • Supplemental instruction for students to advance their abilities to learn complex concepts and achieve success in challenging courses

Frequently Asked Questions

If your question or concern isn’t addressed here, contact us to find out more.

How long is a typical tutorial?

Depending on your needs, tutorials will last up to one hour.

How many appointments can I make?

We can book two appointments at a time per class. After one of your appointments is held, you are able to book the next appointment for that class.

Does my paper have to be finished before I meet with a writing tutor?

No. We work with students at all stages of the writing process, from initial brainstorming to final draft. It is a good idea to bring to the appointment assignment sheets, source material, your notes, and all of your drafts.

Are CAE services free?

What are the credentials of the CAE tutors?

Our professional tutors hold bachelor’s or master’s degrees in areas such as Nursing, English, Education, Counseling, Psychology and Composition Studies. Our undergraduate peer tutors have been recommended by faculty to provide tutoring and to lead study tables.
