A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from USJ provides an excellent foundation to move from classroom to career, or into a medical, dental, pharmacy, or physical therapy school.

There are so many exciting things one can do with a degree or minor in Chemistry.  Our previous graduates have gone onto prestigious Ph.D. programs across the country as well as being accepted into many Pharmacy programs and Physician Assistant schools.  Some even obtain jobs right after graduation, working hands on in the chemistry field or using skills learned in other professions.

Future career opportunities with a Chemistry degree include organic chemist, college professor, pharmacist, patent lawyer and more.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) CATALYST scholarship at the University of Saint Joseph recognizes students who have a vision for a career in STEM. Open to first-year applicants of biology, chemistry, and biochemistry, ten students will be selected to receive an annual scholarship. This renewable scholarship includes access to early departmental advisement, academic support, mentored-research, coursework in scientific writing, and career networking opportunities.

Internships in Chemistry

Internships are available at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, Hartford Hospital, the State of Connecticut Crime Lab, Ensign-Bickford Industries, Pfizer, and Loctite Corporation, to name a few.

Major Plan of Study

The Chemistry program requires 37-38 credits of major class work and well as 16 credits of supporting course work, all with a grade of C or better.
