Special Education - Literacy Internship

Earn your Special Education - Literacy, M.A. degree, tuition free!

The Literacy Internship Program is a longstanding two-year graduate program for Connecticut licensed teachers who hold Elementary, Special Education, or Early Childhood/Special Education endorsements.

  • Our partner districts reimburse the University for graduate tuition for 15 credits each year, and provide a stipend of $10,000 per year to each intern.
  • Interns provide daily reading instruction and assessment to struggling K-8 readers in their placement school and attend weekly classes on campus to learn the most up-to-date research-based practices in literacy instruction and intervention.
  • On site supervision and coaching are provided by school-based reading teachers and university supervisors.

This program appeals to beginning teachers who are interested in expanding and refining their knowledge of the best practices in reading instruction and assessment while earning a fully paid M.A. in Special Education - Literacy and modest stipend. After successful participation in the program, many interns report being hired for elementary classroom positions.
