Literacy Internship

Earn your MA degree, tuition free!

The Literacy Internship Program is a long standing 1 or 2 year graduate program for Connecticut licensed teachers who hold Elementary, Special Education, or Early Childhood/Special Education endorsements.

  • Our partner districts reimburse the University for graduate tuition for 15 or 30 credits, and stipends of $10,000 per year or $20,000 total, per intern.
  • Selected interns provide daily reading instruction and assessment to struggling K-8 readers and attend weekly seminars on campus to learn about the most promising practices in Tier II research based interventions.
  • On site supervision and coaching are provided by two licensed reading teachers.

This program appeals to beginning teachers who are interested in expanding and refining their knowledge of the best practices in reading instruction and assessment while earning a fully paid MA degree and modest stipend. After successful participation in the program, many interns report being hired for elementary classroom positions.

  • Our partner schools include:
    • East Hartford
    • Enfield
    • Newington
