Undergraduate Elementary Initial Teacher Licensure Program Requirements:

  • Completion of a B.A. or B.S. in an academic field as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education
  • Planned program of coursework in Elementary Education toward the Elementary Education Initial Teacher License, 1-6
  • Field experiences in each education course, which are seamlessly embedded into teacher preparation courses
  • 10 weeks of participation in "Tuesday Experience," a full-day field experience unique to USJ during spring semester junior year
  • 16 weeks of student teaching during senior year, which includes an on-campus seminar and weekly supervision, a hallmark of the licensure program

Graduates are encouraged to apply for the Literacy Internship M.A., which provides 15 credits of paid graduate tuition toward an M.A. in Special Education Literacy.

The Elementary Teacher Licensure program is nationally recognized by the Association for Children's International (ACEI) and approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
