Social Studies

Pursue a major in History on the path to teacher licensure in Social Studies

As a USJ Social Studies teacher candidate, you will complete the course requirements for teacher preparation in the department of Education while pursuing a major in History in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

You will collaborate with advisors in USJ’s Advisement Center, the department of History and Society, and the department of Education to develop an individualized plan of study for teaching social studies.

The Teacher Licensure program in Social Studies is nationally recognized by the National Council for Social Studies and is an approved program by the Connecticut State Department of Education.

Through carefully designed coursework, the department of History and Society will prepare you to meet these standards and be successful on the Praxis II Social Studies test, a requirement for student teaching.
