If you do not hold a Connecticut teaching certificate and have at minimum 30 months of classroom teaching experience, you must complete a 10-month full-time residency (40 hours per week) in place of the 600-hour internship experience.

Fingerprinting and Background Check

  • Per Connecticut law, all students who interact with public school students must be fingerprinted and have background checks performed. This information must be on file within the school district office in which they are working.
  • All USJ School Counseling students must have this done prior to taking part in any class in which interaction with public school students is required.
  • Bring a receipt or copy of the report to the Department of Counseling and Applied Behavioral Studies to verify compliance with this law. Learn more:

Graduate Practicum and Internship forms may be found in the Student Handbook.
