Academic Honor Societies

Alpha Sigma Lambda

The Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society for adult (nontraditional) students recognizes the special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work.

Beta Beta Beta

Tribeta National Biological Science Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta, is an honors society for students, particularly undergraduates, dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research.

Since its founding in 1922, more than 200,000 persons have been accepted into lifetime membership, and more than 670 chapters have been established throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Biennial national conventions of student and faculty members began in that year and in 1930 the society journal, BIOS, began publication of student research, articles of interest to biologists, and society news.

Rho Zeta Chapter

The Rho Zeta Chapter was founded in 2007 and is the largest independent club on campus with more than 50 active members. The Rho Zeta Chapter participates each year in community outreach events such as Mercy Day and the Red Cross Blood Drive, and provides opportunities for students to attend research talks and networking events.

Many of our members serve as mentors for STEM outreach programs, content tutors for science courses, and volunteer their time to participate in fundraisers and social events. In 2015, the Rho Zeta Chapter hosted the NE-1 District Convention which welcomed over 13 TriBeta chapters and 100 attendees to our campus from four different states. Several USJ alumnae have also won awards for excellence in research at District and National TriBeta Conventions since the Chapter’s inception.

The TriBeta Rho Zeta Chapter accepts primarily biology, chemistry, nutrition, public health, and nursing majors. However, anyone with a strong interest in biology who has taken at least three biology courses is eligible for regular membership. Regular members may serve on the Executive Board of the Chapter, vote in elections, and apply for Research Grants through TriBeta to support their independent research projects under the mentorship of faculty members.
