Exploring Health Sciences Pathway

Students in this pathway may be eligible to transition into the Nursing program in the spring of their sophomore year, provided they meet the progression requirements outlined below.

First-Year Course Requirements

During the student’s first year, they must earn a grade of B- or higher in each of the following courses:

  • General Biology I (BIOL 114)
  • Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology I (BIOL 241)
  • Introduction to General, Organic, and Biochemistry I and II (CHEM 170 and CHEM 172)

Fall of Sophomore Year

If the student earned grades of B- or higher in the required science courses during their first year, they will be permitted to enroll in the following courses in the fall semester of their sophomore year:

  • Foundations of Professional Nursing
  • Nursing Research I: Introduction to Evidence-Based Practice
  • Microbiology (BIOL 301)
  • Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology II (BIOL 242)

Spring of Sophomore Year

If the student earns grades of B- or better in all of the above courses, they will be admitted to the Nursing program at the beginning of the spring semester of their sophomore year.

Advising Support

We strongly encourage students to work closely with their academic advisor to ensure that they are registered for the appropriate courses and that they fully understand the requirements and expectations for progressing into the Nursing major at USJ.
