The $100,000 ($25,000 per year) merit and need-based USJ Catholic Promise Scholarship is available to any incoming fall 2020 first-year or transfer student who has met the following criteria:

• Completed four years of study and graduated from a regionally-accredited Catholic high school
• Earned at least a 3.0 unweighted high school GPA at the time of admission to USJ
• Enrolls as a full-time residential USJ student with an active campus housing assignment in fall 2020

Catholic Promise scholarships of $25,000 annually are renewable for up to four years if the recipient maintains full-time enrollment, resides on campus, and if academic conditions are met while enrolled at USJ.

$25,000 annually for up to four consecutive years ($100,000) for students who accept an invitation to participate in the Honors Program. Honors students typically have a 3.5 high school GPA and 1220 Evidence Based Reading and Writing + Math. The Honors Scholarship requires continuous full-time enrollment and a 3.25 cumulative college GPA for renewal each year.

Up to $18,000 annually for up to four consecutive years ($72,000) based on a student’s high school academic record and standardized test scores. The Academic Excellence Scholarship requires continuous full-time enrollment and good academic standing for renewal each year.

Up to $10,000 annually for up to four consecutive years ($40,000) awarded to students who will “make a difference” at USJ and beyond by demonstrating their leadership ability, commitment to diversity or service, or their ability to overcome significant obstacles. The Mercy Merit scholarship requires continuous full-time enrollment and good academic standing for renewal each year.

Up to $12,000 annually for up to four consecutive years ($48,000) awarded to community college transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The Phi Theta Kappa scholarship requires continuous full-time enrollment and good academic standing for renewal each year.

CATaLYST (Cultivating Academically Talented Leaders Yields Scientists for Tomorrow) Scholars Program (CSP)

With funding from the NSF Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (S-STEM) program, the USJ CATaLYST (Cultivating Academically Talented Leaders Yields Scientists for Tomorrow) Scholars Program (CSP) will recruit and support high-achieving, low-income students at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ). Throughout its 5 years, this project will provide scholarships for 20 students, in two different cohorts, pursuing bachelor’s degrees in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry.

Selected students will receive a $5,000 scholarship per year, distributed annually as long as students maintain a major in biology, chemistry, or biochemistry, a 3.0 overall GPA in each semester, satisfactory progress toward degree, and 80% attendance at the required CSP events.

The CSP will engage students in innovative and carefully-designed high-impact activities during each cohort’s four-year academic program. The project aims at studying the effectiveness of these activities on the retention and success of students from underrepresented groups in STEM fields as well as on their continued commitment to those fields after graduation.

$1,000 toward tuition for full-time students who make an official campus visit scheduled through the Office of Admissions (campus tour, interview, or attendance at a USJ Admissions event). The award is made within the context of the student’s financial aid package and is not renewable beyond the first year.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, USJ has more than 65 endowed scholarships. Students who apply for financial aid are automatically considered for these scholarships.

This grant varies in amount and is awarded to full-time students who demonstrate financial need. It is based on the information provided by the student on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
