Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival

Enjoy Shakespeare Under the Stars at USJ

Each year, the non-equity professional theatre company Capital Classics brings Shakespeare to the USJ campus for outdoor performances on our beautiful West Hartford, Conn., campus.

Coming July 12-29, 2018: Pericles, Prince of Tyre by William Shakespeare
Thursday – Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 5:30 p.m.

This July, Capital Classics is staging the Bard’s romantic and epic adventure tale, Pericles, Prince of Tyre, complete with tyrant king, wicked stepmother, young heroine, shipwrecks and pirates. Over its three-weekend run, the Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival attracts more than 2,000 fans, who turn out —with their lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets — for this joyous outdoor theatre tradition. Directed by David McHamish, this annual outdoor Shakespeare festival is the perfect way to spend a summer evening with your family or a date night with someone special.

Capital Classics was founded in 1991 to enrich the cultural environment of Greater Hartford through the theatre arts. They are committed to:

  • Providing classical entertainment that is affordable, accessible, and engaging
  • Serving the community with cultural and educational programming
  • Providing job opportunities and training to Connecticut's professional theatre artists
