About

Prior to joining the University of Saint Joseph, Professor May worked in many different clinical settings. Upon graduation from Springfield College, she began working in the emergency department at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke, MA. She also has experience in addiction medicine, urgent care, and occupational medicine. She currently works in Employee Health Services at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA.
She enjoys working in the community and believes that she has learned a lot from working with diverse patient populations in varied clinical settings. She has also enjoyed precepting Physician Assistant students from local programs and has found her desire to teach has been consistent throughout her career. She believes that teaching is an inherent component of being a Physician Assistant and that patient education is one of the most important aspects of her job. She hopes to impart her passion for providing skilled and compassionate care for all patients to her students.
Professor May was a member of the second cohort of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL). As a UDL Teaching Fellow, she has worked to create a learning environment that supports all students and emphasizes alignment among course content, learner tasks, and assessments. She is committed to building purposeful and motivated learners by designing activities that allow for active participation, exploration, and reflect a purpose that is applicable to her student’s lives.
For Professor May, joining the USJ community was a perfect choice, as her mother graduated from USJ in 1979 with a degree in special education. She believes the education gained from the USJ PA program is unique given the modular curriculum, state-of-the art facilities, and exceptional faculty.
