When Ms. Linda Geffner earned her M.L.S. in 1971, she came to work in University of Saint Joseph’s Pope Pius XII Library and has remained there ever since, becoming its director in 1986. Through the years, she has been instrumental in keeping the Library ahead of the technological curve. “The bar has been raised for the students,” Ms. Geffner states, “They need more varied sources cited in their research papers and they have to use the internet effectively. That’s something that all of us here are prepared to help them with.”

The Library is integral to the daily life of each student. Ms. Geffner notes that interactions with students require more time now than they did 30 years ago, mainly because of all the research options available to them. Ms. Geffner also hopes that every student takes full advantage of the Library’s rich resources, including its deep website. (Many students may not be aware that tens of thousands of dollars of expensive resources are available on it.) Ms. Geffner has worked hard to develop the teaching role of the staff, and the Library now offers an on-site reference librarian at all times, including nights and weekends. “We strive to give students every resource and tool they need to succeed,” she adds.

Ms. Geffner retired from USJ in 2017.
