The New England Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association (NE GAPNA) has awarded a $1500 scholarship to a USJ’s Soralid Heredia M’21, for being an outstanding advanced practice nursing student who is committed to improving the nursing care of older adults. Heredia, from Windsor Locks, Conn., is a dedicated student, nurse, and soon-to-be Family Nurse Practitioner after she graduates in December 2021.
Upon winning the award, Heredia remarked,
I feel very honored to have been selected as the NE GAPNA scholarship recipient; being recognized in this manner is quite humbling. It further encourages me to continue working hard towards my future, to become the best Nurse Practitioner I can be.
USJ’s Heidi Smolka, DNP, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, Graduate FNP Program Director, and Assistant Professor of Nursing is proud of Heredia’s accomplishments in the program and is excited for her to be recognized by this prestigious Association. Dr. Smolka noted, “Soralid has distinguished herself as being a caring, empathetic FNP graduate nursing student working with her preceptor at a Long Term Care and Rehab Center this semester. She has received high praise for her clinical assessment skills and ability to effectively communicate with the geriatric population and their families. I look forward to hearing more about the many future accomplishments of Soralid in her career as an FNP.”
