The Hartford professionals instruct USJ students in ‘Actuarial 101’ 

The University of Hartford’s corporate partners are indispensable, providing resources and industry expertise that are crucial to students preparing to enter the workforce.

On March 25, two professionals from The Hartford, the Fortune 500 property and casualty insurance company based in Hartford, Conn., shared their expertise with USJ students interested in working in the insurance field at an “Actuarial 101” event. 

Dan Watt, director and actuary at The Hartford, and Andrei Lioutikov, actuarial assistant at the Hartford, led the session, held in the class of Dr. Ekaterina Lioutikova, discussing actuarial basics, risk management, and intern/employment opportunities in the actuarial field.

That afternoon, Watt and Lioutikov met with a group of students from various programs to discuss the importance of being on Linkedin as they seek internships and jobs. The students worked on their Linkedin pages during the program gaining feedback from Watt, who also serves as head of The Hartford’s actuarial rotational student program.  

“I appreciate our partnership with The Hartford because it’s always good to hear directly from employers what types of experiences and attributes they value in potential interns and new hires,” said Karen Scully, director of Career Development at USJ. “It helps us keep our career programming current and relevant.”
