University of Saint Joseph Associate Professor Speaks on Creating Inclusive Classroom

Recently, USJ Associate Professor of Biology Derek Dube, Ph.D., participated in a panel discussion called “Designing Learner-Centered and Equitable Courses” for the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE).

Dr. Dube, who is co-author of the 2021 book What Inclusive Instructors Do: Principles and Practices for Excellence in College Teaching (with Tracie Marcella AddyKhadijah A. Mitchell, and Mallory SoRelle) spoke specifically of the importance of knowing the students in the classroom to create an inclusive and equitable course. He encouraged instructors to use aggregated survey forms early in the semester, for example, to know information that might help students to be successful in the classroom.
