USJ hosts First Responders brunch in honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week

Students, staff, and faculty of the University of Saint Joseph celebrated National Random Acts of Kindness Week by hosting an Appreciation Brunch for nearly 50 first responders from West Hartford.

First responders from the West Hartford Police Department, West Hartford Fire Department, American Medical Response (AMR) Emergency Medical Services, and local nurses were welcomed to USJ for a specially prepared brunch buffet served by USJ students.

The brunch allowed these hometown heroes to enjoy a meal with the USJ community members and their fellow First Responders. Responders also received special handmade thank you cards prepared by students at the Gengras Center, a private special education school founded on the campus of USJ, which provides learning and education for elementary, middle, high school and transition aged students.

The Center for Wellness Development organized the creation of handmade baskets of “goodies” prepared by student volunteers from Athletics and the Student Nursing Association club and sponsored by the Student Government Association. The SGA, student athletes and Student Nursing Association members then partnered with USJ Public Safety to deliver the baskets to various locations in the West Hartford and Hartford community.
