COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) women’s swimming and diving team was recognized by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) for its academic performance and was named a Scholar All-America team for the Spring 2020 Semester it was announced Tuesday. USJ was among 461 institutions named to the list after the Blue Jays boasted a team GPA of 3.43 for the semester.
The award recognizes teams who achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the semester. “No team was unaffected by this Spring’s pandemic, but USJ’s Athletic Director Amanda Devitt and President Dr. Rhona Free can and should be proud of their team and the work of head coach Brenda Straker,” CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart noted.
The spring semester was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the academic success of nearly 18,000 student-athletes is reflected by the teams named as Scholar All-America Teams. The CSCAA will announce its individual Scholar All-Americans next week.USJ was one of five Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s swimming and diving programs that were honored.
