On May 10, 2019, Hartford’s AXA XL office – a multinational insurance firm – volunteered at the University of Saint Joseph’s Gengras Center for their annual Global Day of Giving. This year, the volunteers worked outside the Gengras Center to clean up the playground and surrounding areas from the winter. From removing weeds to filling in water holes, their compassionate service aided in restoring the playground for Gengras students.

“The work they completed this year on our playground is amazing. It completely transformed the area to make it safe and ready for the students to thoroughly enjoy,” said Gengras Center Director Michelle Lestrud.

Since 2010, AXA XL has assigned their volunteers to a variety of projects that are geared toward their interests. As part of their mission statement states, “Being together and being different makes us better. We are stronger when collaborating and acting as one team.” Other service projects have included preserving historic sites, running educational activities, serving meals at homeless shelters, and painting at local community centers.
