University of Saint Joseph congratulates Denise Puia ’91, Ph.D., MSN, RNCAssociate Professor of Nursing and Director of Prelicensure Programs who was awarded Hartford HealthCare’s 2022 Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing by the Department of Nursing at USJ. The virtual award ceremony took place on May 12, 2022.

Denise Puia commented on the honor by saying “I am honored to be included with a group of such exceptional, compassionate, dedicated professional nurses.”

The Nightingale Awards for Excellence in Nursing program was originally developed by the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut to be a collaborative effort to celebrate outstanding nurses and elevate the nursing profession. The goals of the program are to encourage retention, inspire future nurses, focus public attention and recognize the breadth and scope of nursing practice at the local level.

Hartford HealthCare is proud to have nurses at several of its hospitals awarded with this honor on an annual basis.

“Denise has steadfastly led the undergraduate nursing students with compassion through the many challenges that covid has brought to the Nursing education,” says Chair and Associate Professor of Nursing Janet Knect, Ph.D., MSN.
