USJ Students Receive CVS Health Foundation Scholarship

THE SCHOLARS ARE IN!

The CVS Health Foundation has awarded its annual FNP/PA Scholarship and the University of Saint Joseph has three students with this opportunity. The University has been granted a total of $3,000 scholarships to be awarded to three students of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program.

The scholarship winners are:
-Soralid Heredia
-Christopher Lee
-Ellen Maurus

With the continued assistance of our faculty member Heidi Smolka, DNP, FNP-BC, Graduate FNP Director, and Assistant Professor of Nursing, our students have been selected based on their good standing at the University along with other conditions promoted by CVS Health.

Smolka highlighted the value of the program. She noted, “We are very fortunate at USJ to have a diverse and clinically talented cohort of graduate FNP nursing students who have already made significant contributions to the nursing profession with their work as registered nurses. The three students selected for the CVS Scholarship awards this year have demonstrated a commitment to aiding medically underserved populations through their military service, community volunteer work, and participation in medical mission trips.  Several of those selected are also bilingual or multilingual making them especially valuable to serve this population. I am very proud to know and work with our graduate nursing students as they advance their careers to serving as Family Nurse Practitioners.”

The CVS Health Foundation has been providing scholarship opportunities to FNP/PA students who are enrolled in an affiliated, accredited programs. These scholarships help the Family Nurse Practitioners and Physicians of the future complete their education to start helping the community.

These students have all shown interest in donating their time to serve an underserved population both in Connecticut and outside the United States. Whether they were scrubbing into an operating room in Haiti, consulting for the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services, or volunteering at a Vietnamese Temple and creating an affiliation with Panera Bread for donations.

Congratulations to all three winners of the CVS Health Foundation FNP/PA Scholarship Program! This is a wonderful opportunity and the USJ community is excited to see where it may lead you.
