Once you have completed your housing application, you have the opportunity to request or search for a roommate. All roommate requests must be mutual requests to be accepted. Students who opt to search for a roommate can search for a compatible roommate using the search feature on eRezLife. Students who do not have a paired roommate will be automatically assigned a roommate using our Roomeez algorithm based upon your responses in your housing application.

Yes, we aim to pair first-year students with first-year students, but this is based upon occupancy and availability and is not guaranteed.

Typically, we try to match students that are new with other new students, but depending on availability of space, a transfer student, based on their preference, could be matched with a returning upper-class student.

All first-year and incoming students are randomly assigned to a residence hall. For returning students, a room selection process takes place every spring semester, where they have the chance to choose their room or building based on the Priority Points system.

A small number of single rooms are reserved for those with documented medical needs. Students need to submit a housing accommodation application and medical documentation to Accessibility Services. Approved accommodations are filled as available.

Single rooms are available at Village Townhouses for junior and senior students.

Move in information with your assigned time slot will be sent to your USJ email account in August. You may check the Academic Calendar for move in dates.

Room Dimensions

This is approximate for standard double rooms, medical singles will have different measurements 

• Assumption –  11’ x 13.5’
• Madonna/McAuley/Rosary – 11.5’ x 13.5’
• Genovese/North – 17’ x 14’ 

Windows

Most residence hall rooms have 2 windows, some have 3 and some (medical singles) may have 1 

• Assumption – 54″ L x 37.5” W
• Madonna – 55″ L x 40” W
• McAuley/Rosary – 58” L x 39” W
• Genovese/North – 50” L x 64” W 

Furniture

Measurements of furniture in individual bedrooms may vary depending upon room type or furniture type. Below are approximate measurements of furniture in the residence halls:

• Desks on campus range in length from 36 – 42 inches in length
• All beds (except those that are bunked/lofted) can be adjusted to varying heights by the student. At the highest setting, there is approximately 30 inches of useable space underneath the bed frame.
• Closet styles vary across campus (open style, included shelves, with wardrobe doors, freestanding), so measurements will also vary depending upon specific room type/assignment.

An immunization form must be filed with Health Services. For more information on required medical documentation, and the latest COVID-19 information, visit the health services page (myUSJ log in required).

All rooms include a bed frame, twin XL-size mattress, desk, chair, closet, and dresser.

*Based upon specific room assignment the type of furniture (standalone versus built in) may vary.

New students to the University complete their deposit through the Admissions process as either a Resident or Commuter student. If a student wishes to change their status, they should contact the Admissions Office.

Students returning to housing do not pay a housing deposit in order to apply.

Residents living on the main campus are required to carry a meal plan and will be assigned the All Access Plan. Students in suites can switch to an alternate meal plan option by completing the Meal Plan Change Form in eRezLife before the start of the semester.
