MSW Curriculum
MSW (Two-Year Four-Semester Option)
The MSW program offers a two-year (four semesters) program of study to complete the degree. This option includes two internships in student units (480 hours in year one, 600 hours in year two) in Fall and Spring semesters.
MSW (Two-Year Six-Semester Option)
The MSW program offers a two-year (six semesters) program of study to complete the degree. This option includes two summer semesters and two extended year internships in student units (480 hours in year one, 600 hours in year two) wherein students complete the same hours over an extended period of weeks during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters to reduce the total number of hours per week in field while still fulfilling the internship hour requirements.
MSW (Three-Year Part-Time Option)
The MSW program offers a three-year (seven semesters) program of study to complete the degree. Students accepted into this program will take courses in the Summer of their second year to reduce the course load in other semesters. Students will also complete internships in student units (480 hours in year two, 600 hours in year three) with extended year internship in their first internship spread over the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters to reduce the total number of hours per week in field while still fulfilling the internship hour requirements.
MSW Advanced Standing (One-Year Option)
The MSW program offers a ten-month (three semesters) Advanced Standing program to qualified applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) generally completed within the last six years from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (or an international degree program recognized by CSWE.) Students accepted into this program are exempt from taking foundation year courses (except where the student achieved a grade less than a “B-” in a particular undergraduate social work course). For advanced standing applicants, a maximum of two foundation courses (6 credits) may be retaken at the graduate level. All advanced standing students must take the Advanced Standing Skills Lab (SOCW 597) offered in the August term. This option includes a single internship in a student unit (600 hours) extended over three semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer).
