Typography

Primary Typefaces

Borges and Interstate are the primary fonts used when typographically representing the University of Saint Joseph. These two typefaces — one serif, one sans serif — carry numerous weight options, which leave room for creative variations. Due to copyright/licensing laws, only the USJ Marketing & Communications department may use them for official marketing materials. We use the different fonts and weights to create contrast and balance hierarchy.

Google and System font alternatives are to be used for when Borges and Interstate are not available.

Serif Typeface

Borges is our brand’s Serif Typeface. It is primarily used for body copy and headlines. It is also used for the wayfinding systems on campus.

  • Google Font Alternative: Crimson Text

Sans Serif Typeface

Interstate is our brand’s SansSerif Typeface. It is primarily used for headlines, call-to-action statements, and body copy.

  • Google Font Alternative: Overpass
  • System Font Alternative: Calibri

Secondary Typefaces

Special Forces is a secondary typeface used in the USJ Promotional Logo as well as being the primary font in USJ’s Athletics Logo. There are no alternative font options for Special Forces because its use is strictly for USJ Athletics and to the discretion of the Office of Marketing & Communications.

Examples

Borges and Interstate font families are used interchangeably between headlines, subheads, and body copy. This is done to show contrast and enhance visual hierarchy. For body copy, it is recommended that Borges be used, but Interstate can be used as well. If there are any questions, please email [email protected].
